June: 8 fruits for your health! - The Peach
Our second fruit is Peach! The fruit which inspired lot of painters because its color. We can see peaches in Caravaggio, Monet, Renoir and Van Gogh.
Peach
Delicious and widely popular peaches are native to China, from where they spread to rest of the world via ancient silk route. Peach fruits belong to the genus Prunus in the family of Rosaceae. Scientific name: Prunus persica.
Europe has to thank Alessandro Magno for having brought peaches to Rome: he got strikes from this fruit during a visit in the garden of Dario III of Persian.
Technically, peach fruit is a "drupe" having similar features as that of other Prunus members including plums, nectarine, almonds, and damson.
To sum up
Peaches give you a boost of potassium and vitamine C! Beside a good dose of fibres it's a diuretic refreshing fruit. The pulp can be white or yellow and you can use it to make Macedonia, Salad, Jam, Desserts or just eaten as it is!
